The Purple Keepsake (c.1961)

Mid-Century Modern (1950–1970)
Storied Find #: 027-25
Constructed in 1961, this oval locket carries the quiet confidence of its decade whilst wearing its heart — quite literally — on its face. A deep medium-purple amethyst, oval-faceted and richly saturated, sits at the centre of a raised cluster halo of fourteen cream Akoya pearls, their soft rose overtone warming against the 9ct yellow gold. Surrounding the cluster, the body of the locket in scrollwork — looping, curling tendrils that give the piece a distinctly romantic decorative character. The interior opens to a smooth, polished gold chamber, ready to hold a small private treasure or memento.
Story of the Stone Icon
Story of the Stone

The name itself is the story: amethyst comes from the Greek for "not intoxicated," and for millennia it was worn as a guard against clouded judgement, deception, and self-delusion. Bishops wore it in their ecclesiastical rings as a stone of spiritual clarity and sober authority; its deep purple carried the colour of royalty and the weight of integrity across every century it passed through. A stone that has always stood for the same thing: a clear mind, and a mind that cannot be turned.
