Wrought c.1865–1875, two entwined hearts rendered in honeyed 15-carat yellow gold. The face of the ring is alive with stones: small rubies clustered together in one heart, natural seed pearls arranged in the other, their creamy glow softening the intensity of the red of the rubies. Scrolled gold shoulders frame the setting with characteristic Victorian exuberance, curling upward to meet the cluster face with a flourish that speaks to the era's love of the decorative. It is a ring that carries its intentions with conviction.

This ring has been sympathetically cared for. The scrolled gold shoulders remain crisp, retaining the fine detail of their original form — a pleasing indicator of how thoughtfully this piece has been kept. The gemstone facets show light wear.

Of the original complement of natural pearls, four have been replaced. The replacements are natural, as the originals would have been, and the colour matching is sympathetic to the whole. This history is part of the ring's biography, not a detraction from it.
