The rose gold has deepened over 137 years into a rich, warm patina. All thirteen natural pearls are present and intact, their cream and rose lustre consistent with period-correct natural stones of this age. The garnet-topped doublets exhibit minor, loupe-detectable flea bites at the base of the stones, invisible to the naked eye.
The ring shows evidence of a historic resize, marked by two neat seams beneath each shoulder. The shank itself appears original to the piece — consistent in character, metal colour, and patina throughout — and the resize has been executed sympathetically.

Occasional Wear
Pearl (The Sensitive Souls) — Mohs hardness 2.5–4.5. Pearls are among the most delicate of gem materials — porous, soft, and sensitive to acids, chemicals, and abrasion. They thrive on the natural oils of the skin, so the best care is simply to wear them.
After each wear, give the pearls a gentle wipe with a soft, barely-damp cloth to remove any perspiration, which can be mildly acidic over time. Never soak this ring. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray, lotions, and cleaning products — apply these before the ring goes on, not after. Store separately from other jewellery; pearls scratch easily against harder stones and metals.
The garnet-topped doublets are composite stones and share the pearl's intolerance of water and chemical exposure — soaking risks seeping beneath the garnet crown and affecting the glass base and setting adhesive.
Rose gold develops a soulful patina over time — a quick buff with a polishing cloth will brighten it when you wish, but that deepened warmth is also entirely worth keeping.
We recommend an annual professional check-up to ensure all pearl settings remain secure and the resize seams are sound.
