Wear is commensurate with the ring's age and consistent throughout. Under magnification, the hand-carved scrollwork and buttercup prong detail remain crisp. The custom engraving shows little to no softening or loss of definition. The diamond retains its brightness with no visible surface wear. No abrasions or chips are present, and all settings are secure. The ring was resized at sometime in its history.

Everyday Wear with Care
Diamond, Mohs hardness 10, the hardest natural material known, though the setting itself deserves the gentler handling that comes with its age.
This piece pairs a resilient stone with a soft, hand-carved rose gold mount, so care should follow the gentler of the two. Use lukewarm, mild soapy water with a very soft toothbrush for the diamond, and avoid an ultrasonic cleaner. Many vintage settings, including hand-carved mounts like this one, can be loosened by ultrasonic vibration even where the stone itself would tolerate it. A soft polishing cloth will keep the rose gold's warm patina bright when wanted, without disturbing the crisp scrollwork.
An annual professional check-up is recommended to confirm the prongs remain stable and the setting secure, particularly given the fine, hand-carved nature of the buttercup prongs. Given the ring's age, avoid exposing it to sudden temperature changes or impact, and remove it before manual work, exercise, or applying lotions and perfumes.
