Condition
Excellent.
The ring presents in original condition — no evidence of resizing or repair. The hallmarks are crisp and fully legible, and the metal retains its original surface with a warmth that belies its 120 years. Under magnification, light wear is visible at the facet junctions, consistent with age. One minor era-appropriate 'flea bite' is present to a bezel facet of the centre ruby — detectable only under magnification. All settings are secure.

Gemstone Hardness: Ruby sits at 9 on the Mohs scale — second only to diamond, which sits at 10. Both are exceptionally durable stones, well suited to regular wear with reasonable care.
The Spa Day — Rubies & Diamonds. Both stones in this ring are among the most resilient in the Archive. A bowl of lukewarm, mild soapy water and a very soft toothbrush will clear away the dust of history beautifully. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning for this piece — at 120 years old, the vibrations may loosen stones or disturb the delicate claw settings. When in doubt, stick to the hand-wash.
