The Cerise Navette (c.1900)

Victorian (1837–1901)
Storied Find #: 048-25
Born c.1900 and hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office, this ring was chosen for the archive for its particular refinement. The navette head — long favoured for the flattering, elongating line it draws along the finger — holds three vivid purplish-red rubies, grain-set in sequence along the central panel, with two rose-cut diamonds placed between them, their softly domed faces casting a candlelit warmth against the richness of the stones and the depth of the 18ct yellow gold. The shoulders divide into scrolled splits as they descend to the shank — an architectural flourish that grounds the ring's slender elegance.
Sentimental Token

In the Victorian language of gems, ruby spoke of courage and passionate love — the stone of the undaunted heart. Set alongside diamonds for eternity, a ruby becomes part of a jewel that says, without words, that love is ardent, and cannot be extinguished.
